New Honorary Life Members Announced
by Tim Evans
2015 GEDA Board Chair
At our 2015 Annual Meeting in Savannah, the GEDA Board chose to honor four legends of economic development who have been a part of the GEDA family since the 1970s. The GEDA Board unanimously approved conferring the title Honorary Life Member to long-time friends and colleagues Peggy Chapman, Jane Fryer, Nancy Kinsey, and Willie Paulk. These four women developed a lasting friendship through their common profession in chamber management and economic development, and they did so at a time when there were very few women working in leadership roles in the industry. Some words that come to mind when describing the four friends include: leaders, pioneers, mentors, scholars, GEDA chairs, GACCE presidents, and professionals. Altogether, they have nearly 160 years of experience in economic development and participation in GEDA. Peggy, Jane, and Willie were able to join us in Savannah for the recognition. The recognition for Nancy was posthumous; Nancy died in December 2014. But we know she would have loved every minute of it because of the moment of recognition for her friends.
If you would like to read more about these leading women in economic development, Georgia Magazine published a great feature article in its July 2009 edition: http://www.georgiamagazine.org/archives_view.asp?mon=7&yr=2009&ID=2198
