AC15 "Taking Georgia From Good to Great" rated one of the top
GEDA Annual Conferences ever!
With more than 400 attendees, the 2015 GEDA Annual Conference in Savannah, "Taking Georgia From Good to Great," provided a tremendous opportunity for professional development and networking. Our speaker lineup was highlighted by Governor Nathan Deal, who detailed the state's economic development accomplishments during the past few years in addition to challenging the attendees on "How We Get to Great." We heard from other state leaders representing economic and community development, ports, and higher education, as well as a widely-known site selection consultant, a seasoned economic development marketing professional, and a former jet sales executive. In addition, the chairmen of the Georgia House and Senate Economic Development and Tourism Committees joined us to preview the 2016 Legislative Session. Development authority executives learned more about the recent GASB 77 report and how it will impact financial reporting. While all the speakers were outstanding, survey results show the fan favorite was Chris Young who provided a lively presentation on "Competing Globally and Winning Locally."
Networking opportunities abounded at this year's event in Savannah. Conference attendees enjoyed the musical stylings of the Downright Brothers (including GEDA's own, Benjy Thompson from Bulloch County) at the reception on Wednesday night and the GEDA All Star Band (with special guest Annie Baxter from the Georgia Department of Economic Development) on Thursday evening. Thursday's optional activities included golf at Southbridge, sporting clays at Dorchester, a boat tour featuring the Port of Savannah, and a Taste of Savannah tour.
The 2015 Annual Conference could not have been as successful without the support of our sponsors. Thanks to all sponsors, including Platinum sponsors: Savannah Economic Development Authority and Evans General Contractors. Further, we are pleased to report 15 new sponsors joined us for the 2015 Annual Conference.
Last, but not least, big thanks to the Annual Conference Planning Committee and to all the attendees. You made this a GREAT conference!
